Healthcare team reviewing a patient portal
Project Overview

A US healthcare provider running specialist clinics across five states partnered with DotStark to retire its aging Kentico 12 patient portal and rebuild on Xperience by Kentico (XbyK). The new platform delivers a faster, mobile-first patient experience while keeping appointment booking online throughout the migration.

The Results
3×Faster mobile load (4.2s → 1.1s)
40%Lift in organic impressions
0Unplanned downtime at go-live
Business Objectives
  • Modernise the patient portal without disrupting appointment booking.
  • Cut mobile load time below 1.5s and lift Core Web Vitals.
  • Give the editorial team an easier, faster CMS for clinic content.
  • Re-establish Salesforce and HubSpot integrations on a cleaner architecture.
  • Position the platform for HIPAA-aware content workflows and future growth.
Key Features & Deliverables
  • Headless Next.js 14 frontend powered by XbyK content delivery APIs.
  • 15 structured content types and 47 reusable widgets rebuilt for the new editor.
  • 340 legacy URLs mapped and redirected with zero crawl errors.
  • Azure Functions middleware bridging Salesforce CRM and HubSpot marketing.
  • Accessible, mobile-first patient flows for booking, locations and clinical FAQs.
New patient portal built on XbyK and Next.js
Challenges
  • Six years of technical debt in the legacy Kentico 12 instance.
  • A Clinical FAQ content type with nested references the default toolkit could not move cleanly.
  • Strict zero-downtime requirement around patient appointment booking.
  • Reconnecting Salesforce and HubSpot without losing historical lead data.
Solution Approach

Audit first, then a headless rebuild on Azure.

A 3-week discovery sprint catalogued every content type, widget and URL. We chose XbyK SaaS on Azure to remove DevOps overhead and a headless Next.js frontend to hit the sub-1.5s mobile target.

Migration ran in three validated rounds — staging, side-by-side review, then signed-off cutover at 98.7% field accuracy. Salesforce and HubSpot were rebuilt on XbyK webhooks plus an Azure Functions middleware layer, replacing the legacy custom module.

"

The migration was invisible to our patients and our clinical team — and the new platform is genuinely better in every dimension.

Conclusion

The XbyK rebuild gave the healthcare provider a faster, more accessible patient experience and an editorial workflow the team actually enjoys using. With clean integrations and a headless architecture, the platform is set up to scale into new clinics and services without another full replatform.
